turning empty space into cash
David loves building companies almost as much as he does traveling. Prior to emptyspaceads, David worked as a Program Manager in the Windows Mobile Multimedia Team. Prior to Microsoft, David built phonemyphone with Will Qian. Prior to phonemyphone, David built Vibeslide, a screensaver for college students. Prior to KeenScreen, David was an intern at Microsoft Corporation. Prior to working for Bill Gates, David founded StarvingCollegeStudents.com philanthropy for college students. Prior to SCS, David won an business plan competition at Kansas University, taking their $1,000 seed investment to $26,000 revenue/year with over 100,000 cell phone accessories sold with ChaseToys.com (in high-school), a company he subsequently sold. Prior to ChaseToys.com, David had an Internet eBay business making $6000 profit within one year (in high school). Prior to the eBay thing, David founded D&D Curb Painting in 7th grade in his home-town, Lawrence, Kansas; he and his three employees knocking on random people's doors asking for $15 to paint house numbers on curbs. Prior to D&D Curb Painting, David formed the Stinky Pinky Club in 6th grade, a network marketing company that the 6th grade teachers subsequently shut down. Prior to the Stinky Pinky Club, David sold snacks his mother sent him at Boy Scout Camp. David graduated from UCSD in March 2006 with a BS in Computer Science. David maintains a personal website (running emptyspaceads of course) and blog.
With academic training and professional experience developing and optimizing user interface of websites and applications, he has built the multi-diciplinary expertise in multiple hats combining interface design, interaction design, usability research, and marketing. He is also a rock guitarist, fixed-gear cyclist, and a jazz junkie.
